Welcome to the MapsInTheWild - Book Series
Here is where exploration meets expression, guiding you through diverse landscapes of thought and discovery.
Welcome to my corner of the web!
I’m Amelia,
a multidisciplinary Nomad and Author. I began my freelancing journey as a technical writer in 2021, and though I’ve taken a few breaks along the way, my passion for creative expression and literature has only grown stronger.
My educational path is as diverse as my life experiences. Nine years ago, I graduated from a Swiss institution, and later, driven by my love for languages and international studies, I continued my studies in Vancouver, Canada, and again in 2025 Bienne.
As a third culture kid, born in Brazil and raised in Switzerland, I have a deep appreciation for diversity and an ability to connect across languages and cultures.
After I spent years in survival mode, dealing with C-PTSD and Adoptee Trauma, I wrote Maps in the Wild as a guide for people seeking to create healthy, safe, and nurturing homes.
As a writer, I'm deeply passionate about topics that resonate with my personal experiences and academic pursuits.
Whether delving into entrepreneurship, second language acquisition, or exploring themes of adoption, social science, and eco-psychological living, my work reflects my commitment to authenticity and depth.
Beyond technical writing, I'm also a creative soul. I've dabbled in crafting songs and poetry, finding inspiration in the beauty and complexity of life.
Through my writing, I aim to inspire, inform, and connect with others on a profound level, sharing stories that resonate and ideas that provoke thought.
Join me on this journey as we explore the myriad
facets of life and learning, one word at a time.

Coming Soon: Book
My debut book, MapsInTheWild, is a deeply personal and reflective journey through home, healing, and what it means to feel truly safe. Rooted in my lived experiences as an adoptee, survivor, and seeker of belonging, this book explores how we rebuild our inner and outer homes after trauma, displacement, or disconnection.
If you’ve ever felt lost, unprotected, or in search of something steady, this book is for you.
Why Opening Your Home is About So Much More Than Shelter
I know what it’s like to long for safety.
When I first immigrated to Canada, I had no job, little money, and no clear idea of what the future held.
What I did have was the deep, almost instinctive knowing that shelter isn't the same as safety.
That insight became the seed for both my book MapsInTheWild and this guide, The Safe Home Starter Guide.
Self-Awareness is the Secret Ingredient to a Safe Home
I’ve lived in many homes, foster homes, an orphanage, student housing, with my ex, roommates, and now, finally, a home of my own. I’ve learned that a house isn’t always safe, and a safe space isn’t always physical.
Often, the biggest factor in emotional safety is the mindset of the person offering the space.
That’s where Section 2 of The Safe Home Starter Guide comes in: Self-Awareness.
Curiosity Over Control, Why Cultural Inclusion Starts With Listening
When I was adopted from Brazil to Switzerland, I didn't get to bring my culture with me. I had to adapt quickly.
Later, when I moved to Canada and stayed with various host families, I again found myself trying to “fit in” rather than be fully seen.
That’s why Section 4 of The Safe Home Starter Guide, Cultural Curiosity, is so close to my heart.
Being curious about someone's culture isn’t just about asking where they’re from. It’s about making space for their full humanity:
What Legacy Does Your Home Leave Behind?
The final section of The Safe Home Starter Guide invites you to think big: What feeling will your guest carry after they leave your home?
This question haunted me when I was writing MapsInTheWild. I was remembering the homes where I never felt safe… and the few that made me feel good again.
It took me years of healing, trauma recovery, therapy, and inner work to finally feel safe in my own space. I wrote this book not from a pedestal, but from a path I walked slowly, sometimes crawling.
And now, I ask you:
